After school, walking through the music wing would give you a delight. You may hear a trombone's music loudly protruding from the Mr. Derby's room. Listening to it, you may wonder who on earth could ever play this instrument so expertly. As you turn the corner, you will see Laura Duke playing with a lively appearance.
Laura Duke is a freshman and loves to play the trombone. Every Monday, she gets private lessons from Mr. Derby, which has helped her greatly. She seems to really enjoy the instrument and loves talking about it.
Laura also draws, hangs out with friends, works for the yearbook, and plays basketball. Laura has been playing basketball for four years, but she doesn't play for Bethel Park High School. She spends her time playing with the rec league at the community center.
Laura came to Journalism class because the presentation at Independence Middle School made the class look fun. She truly believed that through this class she would gain valuable experience that would help her through her entire life.
Through her time in Journalism, Laura has some visions for the Hawk Eye. She said, "I want to see it become a fun newspaper where people can have fun reading the news." Laura hopes to contribute news, but with her own twist on it to the newspaper.
Through her time at Bethel Park High School, Laura has many goals for her four years here, but she has one main goal. Laura said, with a smile, "My goal is to enjoy my high school experience while I'm in high school now."
Laura is a nice and compassionate girl, caring about everything she does in her life. She loves everything and cares about everyone around her. So next time you see her in the halls, make sure to say hi and ask her about her trombone. She may end up playing it for you.
