Recently, William Penn Elementary School received a Penguins Foundation Grant. The school was given 20 Kindle tablets and a charging cart. The grant is offered to all the Allegany County School Districts, which is to be given to one elementary school of the district’s choice.
Before, other elementary schools had received a different grant in which they received street hockey equipment for the physical education programs. This is the first time that the School District has received this Penguins Foundation Grant. It was received by Ms. Nicole Morris, the principle, Ron Reyer, the technology director, Dr. Dorothy Stark, the director of elementary education.
“The Kindles will enhance their educational experience with the teacher guiding the instruction at first, and then the students gathering information from the internet, self-directed and independent,” Mrs. Morris said. “They can choose what sources to examine and what connections to peruse.”
She is very happy about the grant and she feels that the Kindles will enhance the learning skills and it will help support the current curriculum.
“Practicing with keyboarding skills, collaborating with others, researching specific topics (learning the difference between useful and not appropriate information), and building foundational skills such as: reading, spelling and math computation are just some of the benefits,” Morris said.
She thinks the Kindles are going to help the students in the future schooling career.
William Penn is very lucky to have received this grant and they are looking forward to show them to the students.
