Rangers and Kings battle for the Cup

The Stanley cup finals are between the Los Angeles Kings and the New York Rangers.

Both teams have not had it easy on the road to the cup. The Rangers beat the Flyers in 7 games, the Penguins in 7 games, and the Canadians in 6 games. The Kings beat the Sharks in 7 games, the Ducks in 7 games, and the Blackhawks in 7 games.

When the teams played in the past on October 7, the Rangers topped the Kings 3 -1. When they played again, the Kings topped the Rangers 1-0.

The Kings are averaging a league high 3.48 postseason goals-per-game.  The Kings’ top four scorers are Anze Kopitar (24), Jeff Carter (22), Marian Gaborik (19) and Justin Williams (18).

Game 1 was on Wed., June 4 in LA. The Kings won 3-2 in overtime. Game 2 is on Sat., June 7 at LA. Game 3 will be on Mon., June 9 at NY. Game 4  is on Wed., June 11 at NY. If there needs to be a Game 5, it will be on Fri., June 13 at LA. If a Game 6 is necessary, it will be Mon., June 16 at NY. Game 7 will be Wed., June 18 at LA.

Going into the next games, the favored team is the Kings. The Rangers have not been to the Stanley Cup finals in 20 years. The Kings’ last time winning the cup was in 2012, and they lost the Conference finals last year.

The Kings have home ice advantage. The Rangers are the best in the Conference with 25 away wins. Even though that is an impressive resume for the Rangers, it did not come in handy last night with the Kings taking a 3-2 lead. The man who brought the kings to victory is Justin Williams.

Henrik Lundqvist tweeted, “It took me 9 years, finally made it…My first Stanley Cup final!! So proud of this group of guys! 4 to go…#BecauseItsTheCup #NYR.”

The Rangers and Kings are going to have one long series if this is the way that they are going to keep playing. It should make out for one exciting series between the two teams.
