The United States did not do as well as some people would have hoped in this year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
They came in 4th in gold medals with nine and 2nd overall in the medal count with 28.
Here is a breakdown of U.S. medals by event:
- Freestyle skiing

5 medals: 3 gold and 2 bronze - Alpine skiing
5 medals: 2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze - Figure skating
2 medals: 1 gold and 1 bronze - Bobsleigh
4 medals: 1 silver and 3 bronze - Skeleton
2 medals: 1 silver and 1 bronze - Ice hockey
1 medal: silver - Short track
1 medal: silver - Luge
1 medal: bronze
Overall, it was not a very bad Olympics, but some people thought the United States could have done better.
One area where the United States was expected to win was men’s ice hockey. The men’s ice hockey team was expected to at least medal, but unfortunately they lost 5-0 in the bronze medal game against Finland.
The women’s ice hockey team won the silver medal after losing to Canada in the finals.
Another area where the U.S. was expected to do well was speed skating. They only won one medal.
Also, Shawn White was expected to do well but had a bad day on the pipe and did not do as well as some people had hoped.
Furthermore, the U.S. was expected to do better in figure skating, especially in the individual figure skating rounds.
Even though the United States did not do as well as people had hoped, the country still has a team that they can be proud of.
