Teachers run Pittsburgh Marathon

On Sunday, May 4, thousands of people gathered to complete one thing. To finish the Pittsburgh Marathon. Many teachers from our own school were ready to run.

Some of the teachers include Mr. Pierson, Mr. Oluszak, Mr. Metheny, Mr. Bellini, Mrs. Opsasnick, Miss Falce, and Mrs. Camic. Many of these teachers ran the full marathon, but others ran the half marathon.

Mr. Pierson ran the full marathon, and his time was 4 hours 45 minutes and 3 seconds.

Miss Falce ran the half marathon. Her time was 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Mr. Bellini ran the full marathon, and his time was 3 hours and 58 minutes. “My goal was under 4 hours, so I reached my goal,” Bellini said.

When all the teachers where younger they did not think that running a marathon was something that they would consider running.

“When I was younger, I disliked running and thought running a marathon was crazy,” Pierson said.

“When I was younger I played soccer and considered running to be a chore,” Bellini said.

“I never thought that I would be able to run a half marathon; it was something that I did not consider doing until I was older,” Falce said.

“I considered it to be the ultimate running challenge,” Pierson said.

He would love to run another marathon. Pierson knew that Coach Metheny, Mr. Bellini, and Mr. Oluszak were running the marathon. They offered him advice on running the marathon.

“I ran the marathon last year, and I loved it,” Falce said. This season was difficult to train in because of the strange weather that has happened this year. Her main goal was to run a faster time in a shorter time period.

Mr. Bellini has run the marathon before and it is something that he enjoys. He decided to start running marathons three years ago and decided to run the marathon this year around Christmas. He knew that he had to finish and he knew what to expect.

Running the marathon had significant meanings to each one of the teachers.

“Crossing the finish line, I was drained emotionally and energy-wise, but in the end I had a deep sense of satisfaction,” Pierson said.

“When I finished, I was emotional and happy to be done,” Bellini said.

“The experience of running the marathon is a wonderful experience. Just running down the street, people are being supportive,” Falce said.

“If I can do it anyone can do it,” she said.
