When Bill O’Brien decided to leave Penn State, the football fans were outraged at his decision.
O’Brien was the head coach for Penn State after Joe Paterno passed away. He made different decisions and changes while he was the head coach. After his first year, he had interviewed for different NFL jobs, but didn’t leave. Then, rumors started to fly that he was leaving Penn State for the Texans. The rumors were confirmed when O’Brien had a press conference confirming that he was leaving Penn State for the Texans.
When O’Brien made his announcement that he was leaving Penn State, fans had a difficult time dealing with the loss of a head coach after only two years. Penn State fans felt like they were used as a stepping stone for him to get to something bigger in his career. Penn State fans were very angry with O’Brien.
In an interview with David Jones of PennLive.com, O’Brien said: “You can print this: You can print that I don’t really give a —- what the ‘Paterno people’ think about what I do with this program. I’ve done everything I can to show respect to Coach Paterno. Everything in my power. So I could really care less about what the Paterno faction of people, or whatever you call them, think about what I do with the program. I’m tired of it.
“For any ‘Paterno person’ to have any objection to what I’m doing, it makes me wanna put my fist through this windshield right now…”
When he said this, he made Penn State fans very angry because when he first came to Penn State he asked kids to make a commitment, and fans are saying he lied, and that he cannot keep a commitment to himself.
It is best that O’Brien not come back to town for a while until the angry fans are not so mad at him.
