Andrew Thomas makes a basket as his teammates cheer him on in the Hawks’ game vs. Trinity on Friday, Feb. 3.

The boys basketball team currently sits tied for first place in the WPIAL Section 1- 5A division. The boys have now won three straight section games and have two section games remaining.

Over the last three games, the Hawks (12-6, 7-1) took care of business against Ringgold (3-17, 1-7) 63-31, Trinity (8-11, 3-5) 62-53, and Connellsville (0-20,0-8) 78-45. This puts the Hawks tied with Peters Township (16-3, 7-1) atop the standings.

The boys already have clinched a spot in the playoffs, but wins over Peters and Thomas Jefferson (13-7, 6-2) could lead to a home playoff game and a section title.

Due to a change in the schedule, the boys are faced with some adversity. Normally, the games are played on Tuesday and Friday, but because of the change, the games will be played back-to-back on Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11.

These are undoubtedly the biggest games of the year for the Hawks, and they will determine the fate of the season.

When asked about the two games, junior forward Shawn Davis said, “It’s going to be a challenge, but if we continue to work and if the effort is there, we believe we can win our section.”

The Hawks will go on the road to face Peters on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and they will play at Thomas Jefferson on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Show out and support the boys as both games should be thrillers.
