In its inaugural home contest of the season in front of alumni, the varsity wrestling team secured a resounding victory over local rival Upper St. Clair with a scoreline of 62-6. Jaden Palombine set the tone for the Black Hawks with an early pin at 107, igniting a series of impressive performances.
Pierce Reinhart continued the momentum at 114, extending the lead by 12 points through another decisive fall. Colton Fisher, at 121, shifted the dynamics with a point-scoring spree, ultimately clinching a second-period tech fall. The 127-pound weight class witnessed Seth Miller’s swift pin, further consolidating the Hawks’ dominance.
Aden Stout, stepping into the 133-pound category, dazzled with first-period takedowns, culminating in a second-period pin. Mason Kernan, at 139 pounds, showcased a masterful takedown clinic, securing a tech fall. Ethan Higgins, competing at 145 pounds, amassed significant points and concluded with a tech fall for the Black Hawks.
Freshman Ian Bucheli, at 152 pounds, mirrored the success of his teammates with a tech fall. Cordan McDonnell and Hunter Goelz, at 160 and 172 pounds respectively, swiftly earned six team points each for the Hawks with quick pins. AJ Tomaino, making a move to 189 pounds, contributed to the team’s success with a pin.
Landon Hartman, competing at 215 pounds, displayed resilience and secured a hard-fought decision despite facing physical challenges. While the heavyweight match did not unfold as planned for the Hawks, their overall performance throughout the dual was commendable.
Next up for the red-hot Hawks is another section matchup, this one taking form in crosstown rival Mt. Lebanon at Mt. Lebanon HS on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
