The varsity wrestling team replicated history Wednesday night by securing a victory over North Allegheny, 26-15, in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL playoffs. Before this, they defeated North Hills in the preliminary round, 39-15.

This narrative echoes the events of 2009 when the Hawks of that era also navigated through North Hills and North Allegheny in the initial rounds, paving their way to the semifinals.

Key contributors to the thrilling victory against North Allegheny included Hartman (285 pounds), Reinhart (114 pounds), Miller (127 pounds), Kernan (133 pounds), Bucheli (145 pounds), McDonnell (160 pounds), and Walsh (189 pounds).

Notably, the 2009 Hawks, after dispatching Hempfield in the semifinals and Connellsville in the finals, etched their names in school history by clinching the school’s first WPIAL Championship in wrestling.

This year’s team is poised to mirror that success as they gear up to face Trinity in the semifinals on Saturday at AHN Arena in Peters Township High School. The Hawks, seeded fourth, are set to challenge the top-seeded Hillers for a shot at advancing to the finals. The ultimate showdown will be against the winner of the Connellsville versus Franklin Regional clash. Meanwhile, the defeated teams will vie for third place, determining the qualifier for the state tournament.

Action kicks off at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, promising an intense spectacle at AHN Arena. The stakes are high, and the Hawks are on a mission to add 2024 to their banner of triumphs.
