ARMS TRIUMPHANTLY RAISED, sophomore Emily Carter breaks the tape as she crosses the finish line in 1st place at the Slippery Rock Invite.

On Saturday, Oct. 6, sophomore Emily Carter raced toward the finish of the Slippery Rock Invite among roaring cheers.  She finished the 5K in 1st place with an astounding time of 19:57.

Emily Carter has been running since she was in 6th grade through a program called Pacers, which is a USA track and field youth running club.  She joined as a way of conditioning for volleyball during the spring.

Since then, Emily has worked hard and dominated each course she’s ever come across.

When asked about what she thought was the hardest part of the race on Saturday, she said, “The end, trying to push myself ’cause I had no one else near me.  It was really hard.”

When she got her first place medal, she said that she was feeling very excited because she wasn’t expecting to win.  The key to her success is hard work.

“I enjoy running because it helps get my mind off things.  Like I can just run and not think about things,” said Emily.

Congratulations Emily on your big win!  You make Bethel Park proud!
