Attention all graduating seniors! If you haven’t thought about applying for a scholarship yet, here is your sign!

As your counselor has most likely already told you, applying for scholarships is an extremely beneficial thing to consider doing.

Student counselor, Mr. Bruce said, “Many of the local scholarships have little to no interest with students applying for scholarships. When you have a small pool of students applying, then you may actually have a chance in qualifying for the scholarship.”

A variety of different local and national scholarships are available to many students for application. You can find them through Naviance or by picking up a copy of the application in the front office.

Just as an oversight, the following scholarships that will be mentioned are just some that are offered to our high school’s students.

Firstly, The Student View scholarship from the Student Insights program offers a total of $12,000 distributed to 13 different students pursuing higher education. With this, first place receives $5,000, second and third place receive $1,000 each, and the last 10 of the 13 receive $500.

Any student can apply for this scholarship and there is no essay required. The application consists of a series of online questions to allow the staff of Student Insights to get to know the student better, and it is not a time-consuming task to complete.

Next, a local scholarship, given by the Bethel Woman’s Club, is an award that will be given to a student who is a resident of Bethel Park.

This scholarship can be given to either a male or female and is based upon an anonymous application. The winner will be decided upon by their scholastic ability, acceptance to an accredited school, and financial situation.

Pick up an application from Mrs. Quinn in the main office if you would like to apply.

Thirdly, the Bethel Park Kiwanis Scholarship consists of $1,200 to be used for furthering one’s education.

In order to apply, one must be a graduating senior from BPHS, have a GPA of at least 2.0, and be planning to attend an accredited vocational school, technical trade school, or a two- to four-year college.

For this scholarship, one of the main consideration factors is the state of financial need one is in.

Mr. Bruce sums this process up in a few words by saying, “The time that you have to invest in applying for a scholarship is minimal, which is not too bad at a chance for a prize of $500 or more, right?”

Taking a small portion of your life away to support your future self is a great idea! Not only can you have the ability to tell others of your achievements, but you can also possibly be awarded for them as well!

Make sure to apply!
