Could Heinz Field expand?

Many are disappointed when they look for tickets to a Pittsburgh Steelers game at Heinz Field, but can never find them. However, a plan in the works could make many more fans happy.

A plan to expand Heinz Field has now been pushed before the planning committee. In the plan,  2,390 seats will be added to the south end zone part of the field. These seats will consist of 1,553 general admission seats, 837 premium seats, and five suites.

In addition, with the extra seats, a new plaza level will be created right under the Heinz Field scoreboard. It will include new restrooms and concession stands.

Due to the construction, 310 seats will be removed. In addition, due to the seat addition, 791 parking spaces will be needed. However, premium seat holders can park in existing pre-sold lots. Other spots will be found in downtown.

If the plan is approved within two weeks, construction should start at the end of Pittsburgh’s season. This is in mid to end January.
