Pennsylvania Governor School opens up opportunities for juniors at BPHS

Many juniors are talented in many subjects, including math and science. But, they may not know where to go to show their talents. Now, there is a way.

The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS) has opened up spots for juniors to enroll in the 2015 program, which takes place in the summer at Carnegie Mellon University. The program lasts for five weeks, and provides juniors with a dorm room, meals, and materials.

The program specializes in hands-on labs and teamwork in projects. It is geared for students who are good in science and mathematics. In addition, students that want to get a job in the science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields are benefited by the program.

PGSS, created in 1982, allows talented students to participate in actual science research and study. It instructs in such subjects such as chemistry, computer science, physics, biology, and mathematics. The program is sponsored by PGSS Campaign, Inc. The program is also supported by the Mellon College of Science and Carnegie Mellon University.

Students who want to be a part of the program must mail an application to Carnegie Mellon University by January 31. For more information about the program, talk to Mr. Cristofano in room 328 or click here.
