On December 4, many students were gearing up for new work, tests, and questions on Trivia Crack. Probably the last thought on their brains was being on live radio. However, a visit from one of the most acclaimed radio hosts around changed that thinking for a few lucky students.

Mike Pintek, host of KDKA News Radio 1020, paid a visit to Bethel Park High School as part of his High School Tour. In this tour, Pintek visits a different high school every quarter to broadcast his radio show.

“I love being a radio host,” Pintek said. “It gives me a lot of opportunities, and you don’t need any skills to do it.”

During the show, Pintek talked about many topics. These ranged from Bethel Park High School to national news. With Dr. J and guidance counselor Mrs. Michaels, Pintek stayed on school topics, which varied from school activities to the Career Spotlight Series.

On the other hand, he talked with students who attended the radio show about the recent big case in New York, when a white police officer killed a black man via a choke-hold. Other topics included the Ferguson case and racism in general. In addition, Pintek took in a radio caller, who posed a question for students. Students were encouraged to participate in the radio show.

In addition, during the show, the jazz band, Top 21 chorus, and symphony orchestra performed at the beginning of each segment of the show.

Mike Pintek has been radio host in many places. Pintek became a DJ in college after practicing NASA liftoffs during his childhood. He moved on to become the news director at a Harrisburg radio station. Then, he transitioned to being an anchor at a Washington D.C. station. Finally, Pintek ended up at KDKA in Pittsburgh. He has also been a radio host at St. Louis and Baltimore.

Since the program has started, many schools have been visited as part of the High School Tour. Such schools include McKeesport, Moon, Woodland Hills, Upper St. Clair, and Butler, to name a few.

The KDKA News Radio 1020 show airs each day from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on AM 1020.
