BPHS students “Verbalize for Victory”

There are many children in the hospital with cancer or other serious diseases. During their stay, they do not always have things to do, and a nurse cannot be with the children all the time. There is a new program, though, that has fixed that problem.

Seniors Julianne Rosa and Harrison Zelt have created a new program called “Verbalize for Victory” as part of an SGA community service project. In this project, people are recorded and videoed while reading children books. These include Olivia by Ian Falconer and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff.

After the books are recorded and videoed, they will be edited for accuracy. Then, they will be burned onto a DVD. This DVD will be dropped off at the Children’s Hospital in Lawrenceville.

“With community service, I had heard of people reading to kids before,” Zelt said. “I wanted to do something a little more permanent for kids.”

Zelt and Rosa enlisted the help of Mr. Kszastowski’s Video Productions II class to record and edit the video and audio recordings of the books.

“It is a great project, and kids will be helped by this,” Mr. Kszastowski said.

Zelt also expects to organize a field trip to drop off and show the DVD to children.
