Tom Wolf sworn in as 47th Pennsylvania Governor

On January 2o, 2015, at the outdoor ceremony in Harrisburg, outside the Capitol Building, Tom Wolf was sworn into office as the 47th Governor of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Wolf, 65, took his oath at noon outside the rear entrance to the Capitol. His running mate, state Sen. Mike Stack of Philadelphia, took his oath as Lieutenant Governor earlier in a state Senate ceremony that was closed to the public. Mr. Stack relinquishes the Senate seat he has held for 14 years, but the duties of his new office include serving as the Senate’s presiding officer.

Tom Wolf won the November election with 55% of the vote against Former Governor Tom Corbett, the Republican candidate. Governor Wolf was the only Democrat to unseat a sitting Republican governor in the country.

Tom Wolf acknowledged his background as not being purely political, with the former businessman saying in an inaugural ceremony outside the Capitol that attracted more than 2,000 people, “I am an unconventional leader, I may be the first governor of Pennsylvania who ever operated a forklift, ever managed a hardware store. I volunteered for the Peace Corps. I ran a business.”

As Governor, Wolf set a general plan of ending educational disparities in public schools, creating good-paying jobs and providing “a government that works” — but gave no more specifics to ambitious goals that he laid out during his campaign during his inaugural address.

Pennsylvania has a new Governor and perhaps that will create a new outlook for the future.
