Bethel Park forensics team members start the season off well

On Saturday, Nov. 8, the BPHS forensics team traveled to Quigley Catholic High School to participate in the teams second tournament of the year.

At the tournament, several new members of the team earned their membership in the National Forensics League having earned 25 or more points at a tournament. These students are new team members Jonathan Engel, Lizzie Hartnett, Veronica Johns, Danika Moody, Akhil Rajasekar, and Jessie Scarlett.

Also at the tournament, team member Jessica Viehman was awarded the Degree of Excellence by virtue of her score in this and previous tournaments.

With practices after school everyday with a day for each of the different categories, the forensics team puts a great deal of time and effort into their pieces and also a great deal of time on the weekends with tournaments every Saturday.

Forensics coaches Alice Ursin and Pat Zenz coordinate the team and coach the students on how they can improve the delivery of their speeches for the tournaments and giving them advice on their performance.

As the season continues, the forensics team hopes to continue to improve their performance.
