Pirates Weekly Report: Week 3

The Pittsburgh Pirates are now 11-10 and are in 3rd in the NL division. With that being said, here is a look at the last week in Pirates baseball.

The Pirates began their week on Sunday, April 19. The game was against the Milwaukee Brewers and finished the three-game series against them. The Bucs won 5-2.

The Pirates then hosted the Chicago Cubs for a four-game series. The Buccos started off slow with two losses but things turned around.

After losing their first two games against the Cubs, they won the third game of the series 4-3 and then the fourth game 5-4.

Then, the Pirates headed to Arizona to play the Diamondbacks. The last time these two teams played, the series got heated after star first-basemen Paul Goldschmidt was hit by a pitch, ending his season. The Diamondbacks retaliated by hitting Andrew McCutchen intentionally.

This time, to end the week, the Pirates swept the Diamondbacks in three games and next up is the Chicago Cubs again.

Andrew McCutchen, who is Pittsburgh’s biggest star, has been in a slump batting lately. The four-time All-Star, who is used to putting up big numbers, has only been batting a .194 so far this season.

Perhaps his average reflects the team average which is a below average .230. The Pirates will be looking to turn it around in the early stages of the year and will likely rely heavily on stars like McCutchen.
