Stanley Cup Playoffs Update

Just in case you have not been keeping up with the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Kings and Rangers are in the finals battling for their right to have their names engraved on the Cup.

The Kings last Stanley Cup Final appearance was in 2012 where they dispatched Marty Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils in six games for the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.

The Rangers have not been to the Stanley Cup Finals in 20 years when Mark Messier and Brian Leetch led them to a victory against the Vancouver Canucks in seven games.

This season, the Rangers defeated the Flyers in seven games and rallied after being down three games to one to the Penguins to come back and win the series in seven games.

They then faced the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Final and skated away with the Prince of Wales trophy in six games.

After falling behind to the San Jose Sharks three games to zero, the Kings mounted one of the greatest comebacks in recent memory to win the series in seven games. The 1942 Maple Leafs, 1975 Islanders, and 2010 Flyers are the other three teams to come back after falling behind three games  to zero.

The Kings’ next opponent was the number one seed in the Western Conference, the Anaheim Ducks. The Kings rallied once again and won Games 6 and 7 to take the series four games to three.

In the Western Conference final, the Kings faced off against last year’s champs, the Chicago Blackhawks. The series again took a full seven games, and the Kings came out victorious with Alec Martinez’s game winner in overtime.

The Stanley Cup final has proven to be very exciting with the first game going to overtime before Justin Williams won the game for the Kings.

Game two proved to be even more exciting and the game was tied four-four after the third period. There were no goals scored in the first overtime , and the game winner went to the Kings’ captain Dustin Brown after he tipped in a Willie Mitchell shot.

The Kings lead the series two games to zero and have come from behind to win both games. Can the Rangers come back and make the series interesting or will they be swept by the Kings? The only way to find out is to tune in to NBCSN and watch the games for yourself.
