Steelers get speed and youth in draft

With the 2014 NFL Draft officially over, the Steelers made a pretty impressive splash.

With their first pick in the draft, they got yet again another linebacker, Ryan Shazier. A head scratcher at first, then you see the film on this guy and figure it was a pretty good find–a speed linebacker, who can rush the quarterback and drop back in coverage.

Let’s not forget the Steelers are in need of another inside linebacker. With Timmons on the strong side and Shazier on the weak side, it should be fun to watch.

With their second round pick, the Steelers went for defense again with defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt. A hulking man at 6’5″ 304 lbs., he can fill a void left by Ziggy Hood, who departed for Jacksonville in free agency.

The Steelers also got another big guy later in the draft at the defensive line spot in Tennessee’s very own Daniel McCullers.

At 6’7″ 352 lbs., McCullers was an interesting find later in the draft. With these two coming in, you can hopefully wish the defensive line gets better after the losses in free agency and injuries last year.

The Steelers third and fourth round picks interested me the most. With the Steelers getting running back Dri Archer and Martavis Bryant, respectively. Archer, who almost broke the record for the fastest time at the 40 yard dash, has blazing speed and could be used as a well balanced attack with Le’Veon Bell in the backfield.

Bryant, who was apart of the aerial attack at Clemson that featured Watkins on the opposite side, is a lengthy, tall receiver at 6’5″. Something Roethlisberger was hoping to get in the draft, he is a tall target that can high point the ball.

The Steelers look like they are on the fast track in the right direction, but only time will tell. All in all, the Steelers made out in the draft in a good way and look to be strong for next year.
