Why WNBA athletes make less than NBA athletes

This question has been argued for years: Should women professional basketball players make as much money as their male counterparts? Although it would be nice, it is an unachievable goal.

One reason why this could never happen is because of the revenue of the two leagues. The WNBA brings in $25 million dollars a year, while the NBA brings in $7.4 billion. Some would say that the WNBA should be able to pay their players more because there are only 12 teams, compared to the NBA with 30 teams. But all WNBA teams are not profitable, so the NBA gives the money to support and keep the teams that are not making enough money.

Another reason why the WNBA isn’t making enough money is that the game is just more boring than watching the NBA. People watch professional sports for high-level entertainment, and the WNBA is less entertaining than the NBA. Watching people dunking on each other is far more entertaining than watching people shoot layups. Most people that watch WNBA already have basketball knowledge, and just appreciate watching all sports. But some people that don’t know much would rather watch the NBA because there is more action, and it is more fun to watch.

With the combination of lower revenue and fewer viewers, WNBA players cannot make as much money as NBA players.
