Lady Hawks tip-off season with wins

The Lady Hawks basketball team, ranked N0. 2 in the WPIAL, crushed Beaver in their own tip-off tournament in the championship game by a score of 73-56 to start off their season on Saturday, Dec. 9.

Top scorers were Freshman Olivia Westphal who led the team with 26 points, including four 3-pointers and defensive steals. Maria Cerro pitched in 20 points and 5 assists. Maddie Dziegowski added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Everyone contributed in a different way for the win.

“We played awesome. For it only being our second game we played really well together,” said senior Jill Acker.

“I love this team and I cannot wait for what the season brings us,” Juliana Carbone said.

In their previous game on Friday, the Lady Hawks opened up with a victory over Hempfield 57-32. Top scorers were Maddie Dziegowski who had 17, Maria Cerro added 14, and Olivia Westphal with 13.

The Lady Hawks remain 2-0 and are looking forward to play non-section Montour on Thursday and Trinity on Saturday. Come support!
