#6 varsity softball gets upset by #11 Gateway after ninth inning rally

Sixth seeded BP varsity softball went to Baldwin on May 12 as a big favorite over eleventh seeded Gateway. However, Gateway overcame some difficulties to secure a victory.

Danielle Taylor had a key ninth inning home run, and Gateway upset BP, 5-4.

The score was tied 3-3 going into the top of the ninth inning. However, after Danielle Taylor had a solo home run to tie the score, Ufuoma Ogagan hit an RBI single to extend the Gateway lead to two.

BP could not recover, as they only scored one run in the bottom of the ninth.

Gateway got out to an early 2-0 lead, but BP tied it after the fourth with a run each in the third and fourth innings.

Madison Lewis had a home run for Gateway (11-5). She also struck out nine and got the win.

Taylor Andres got the loss for BP (14-5), even after striking out 12. Haley Reid and Rachel Albert had a double each in the game.

Gateway will advance to the second round of the WPIAL playoffs. However. their next opponent is undetermined, as well as their game time. BP is out of the playoffs.
