Baseball team to face Baldwin in final section game

Last season, the baseball team found themselves in a similar situation to the one they’ll be in today — win and go to the playoffs, or lose and go home.

They play Baldwin today, Monday, May 4, at Wallace Field in Baldwin at 4 p.m.

The game didn’t go the Black Hawks’ way last year, but it’s a new year and new team.

Currently, the Black Hawks are 8-7 overall this year; although, they’re only 5-6 in section play, and that’s what truly matters if they want to be playoff bound.

Both the Black Hawks and the Highlanders are in the same boat and will be fighting for the final spot in the Section 5 standings to join Canon-McMillan and Mt. Lebanon to go to the playoffs.

For the Black Hawks, they’ll be sending staff ace Corey Augenstein to the mound in this key play-in game.

Augenstein had a few rough patches to start the year but has since settled down and gone back to his dominant ways of previous seasons.

In Augenstein’s last start, he shut down division foe USC by throwing a gem at their place — and in turn, ending their playoff hopes.
