Haley Reid named Tribune-Review Athlete of the Week

Recently, Haley Reid was named by the Pittsburgh Tribune Review as their athlete of the week.

Reid was selected after her stellar game on April 23 against Canon-McMillan. In that game, she was 3 for 4 with four RBIs. She also hit a triple and scored a run in the game. This helped the team beat then number one ranked Canon-McMillan, 14-4.

“I’d say that my team had a lot higher intensity because we knew that if we just put our minds to it, we could beat Canon-McMillan, even though they’re a very huge competitor in our section,” Reid said to the Tribune Review. “We know that if we just hit the ball and played our hardest that we could come up winning the game, and we all just wanted it very badly.

Reid also played in BP’s most recent games. These games were against Ringgold on April 27, Mt. Lebanon on April 24, and Upper St. Clair on April 21. She was successful in all these games.

“My key to success was probably to always relax at the plate, because sometimes I get tense and that throws me off,” Reid said to the Tribune Review. “Always stay relaxed and keeping a clear mind whenever you get up to the plate, thinking that I’m going to hit the ball is probably the best way for me to go up and actually get a hit.”

Against Upper St. Clair, Reid went up to bat four times and got two hits. She scored two runs and batted in three runs.

Against Mt. Lebanon, Reid was one for four. She earned a run and a RBI.

In the team’s latest game against Ringgold, she scored three runs and had two RBIs.

With these spectacular games, Reid helped the team go 4-0 in that span and extend their winning streak to ten games.

“We try to practice hard and just have high intensity going into each game,” Reid said to the Tribune Review. “We just try to treat each game the same and just take one game at a time, just to make sure we don’t take any team lightly.”

This season, Reid has gotten 17 hits out of 39 at-bats, which makes for a .436 hitting average. She has scored 15 runs and has 17 RBIs. She also has five triples and one home run.

Hopefully, Reid can carry this hot streak into the team’s next few games.
