BPHS swimmers qualify for PIAAs, divers do well in WPIALs

The swimming and diving teams have both done well this season. Four individuals, though, got big rewards for their efforts.

Two swimmers have qualified for the PIAAs. And, even though the two divers are not competing in the PIAAs, they did pretty well at the WPIALs.

First, the swimmers. Becca Yonek and Vinny Tavoletti have both qualified for the PIAA Swim Championships after spectacular seasons. Each swimmer will compete in two events. Yonek will swim the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle events. Tavoletti will compete in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke events. Nobody from BP will compete in the breaststroke.

The PIAA Swim Championships are to be held starting Friday, March 13. Action will commence at Bucknell University.

Meanwhile, divers Brionna Litwin and Maria Capozzi excelled at the WPIAL Diving Championships. Even though neither diver got a gold, silver, or bronze medal, they both placed in the top ten. Litwin got seventh place, while Capozzi was right behind her in eighth.

“I did great [in the WPIALs],” said Litwin. “Even though I did not get first, I am happy [with the result].”

Congratulations to all four athletes. And, good luck to Yonek and Tavoletti in the PIAAs. Tavoletti, Yonek, Litwin, and Capozzi are talented in the water, and this is just some more proof.
