Student Athlete of the Week: Sophomore Softball catcher Carolyn Cook

Even though Carolyn Cook is only a sophomore, she has made an immediate impact on the softball team.

For the 2013-2014 year, Cook started her high school softball career. She contributed to the team as a catcher and in other infield positions.

Cook is a great player on both sides of the plate. As a batter, she batted .273 in 22 at-bats. This accounts for six hits. In addition, she had four RBIs and five runs scored. Furthermore, throughout the season, she only struck out once.

She was also good on defense. She helped the team’s top two pitchers, Jess Cook and Taylor Andres, have 84 strikeouts and only 36 walks. She was also a good infielder and had key plays in the field to prevent runs scored.

With this production, she helped the team reach an 11-5 record. This includes a 10-4 record in conference play. Even though the team lost early in the WPIAL playoffs, she was a big factor in the team’s success.

She has already helped the team get off to a great start with a 18-0 drubbing over Waynesburg. Expect more greatness from her as the season progresses.
