Peer Pressure: Just say no

Peer Pressure. According to an article on peer pressure by Parent Further, only 10 percent of teens surveyed said they had not been influenced by peer pressure.

Imagine this: you’re sitting around with a couple of friends playing games when one of them pulls out a bottle of alcohol and offers everyone some.

You do not necessarily want to drink any, but you go ahead anyway because all of your other friends are doing it. You have now fallen into what is called peer pressure.

Peer pressure is the influence from members of one’s peer group. Falling into peer pressure is one of the most common downfalls of teenagers.

Don’t get me wrong, peer pressure is not always a bad thing. We can be influenced in both negative and positive ways.

For teens like us, we will be drawn to hanging out with our friends more. It is what you decide to do with your friends that influences you.

Although it can be hard to resist peer pressure in the moment, making the right decision will impact not only you but the people around you. For example, just by standing up and saying that you do not want to drink the alcohol you are being offered, could push another one of your friends to stand up and do the same.
