Every day has a holiday. From National Icee Day to Talk Like a Pirate Day, the extent of the holidays are nearly endless. Here are the holidays from October 9th to October 14th:
October 9th- Lief Erikson Day– Lief Erikson is credited for being the first European to set foot on American Soil. Around 1002 AD, Erikson went on a journey from Greenland to find a land seen by a Norse Sea Captain. It is believed he landed around New Foundland and traveled as far south as Cape Cod. After the winter he and his men spent there, he left and never returned. In 1964, Congress decreed October 9th to be Lief Erikson Day, the day he landed in America.
October 10- National Angel Food Cake Day– Angel Food Cake refers to a specific type of cake, which is traditionally a spongy yellow cake baked in a circular pan with a hole in the middle. It is also traditionally furnished with fresh fruit. The tradition on this day is to bake your own cake. Though, the modernized version is just to buy it. Either way, this day is dedicated to relaxing and eating cake.
October 11- Take Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day– This day is a fun day to bring back your childhood. Find your trusty Teddy, dress him up, and take him to either school or work. Some suggestions would be to have him eat lunch with you, take him on a tour, and show him to your friends. After the day is done, snuggle up with him and watch a good, long movie.
October 12- World Egg Day– This day is dedicated to celebrate and promote the benefits of eggs. For this day you could eat eggs and learn more about them. Or find your Plastic Easter eggs and have an egg hunt with your friends. Also, decorating eggs could be fun too. You could also ponder the great question of life “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?”
October 13- National Chess Day- If any day would be good for learning chess, this day would be it. Celebrate this day by learning chess, playing chess, or teaching chess. Or put in Harry Potter and the Scorcerer’s Stone and watch the epic human sized wizard chess battle. Just hope your friends are up to the challenge of facing you.
October 14- National Dessert Day– This day could probably be the best day out of the year to break your diet. This day is dedicated to ignoring calories and fat content. Instead, buy candy, bake a cake, eat raw cookie dough, or whatever other dessert strikes your fancy. Also, think about planning a day trip to Hershey-the sweetest place on earth.
