It was a tough hill to climb for the boys varsity basketball team, who played host to Trinity Friday night for a double header. Both teams entered The Nest 1-5 in the section. The Hawks were looking to avenge their 55-51 loss from Dec. 11. When the final horn blew, it was almost the same result, 59-53. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-6 in the section.
“We came into the game playing hyper through defense and executed very well on the defensive side of the ball. Going into the next game, we plan to push the ball and score more points,” said 6-foot-2 forward, senior Jovian Smith (No. 1).
The starting lineup included Smith, 5-foot-6 point guard, senior Will Thomas (No. 2), 6-foot-1 guard, senior Owen Turoski (No. 3), 6-foot-3 forward, senior Mike Bruckner (No. 20) and 6-foot-2 forward, junior Joe Parisi (No. 5).
Prior to this game, the team welcomed back 5-foot-11 guard, junior Brady Bruckner (No. 0). With his return, the Hawks upset the Baldwin Highlanders, 49-43, on Jan. 9.
Brady was just one of our Hawks of the Week this past week! Welcome back to the game, Brady!
The next game is Tuesday, Jan. 20, against South Fayette (3-3, 5-8) at South Fayette High School. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. The last time the teams played, Dec. 16, the Lions won 60-49. Go Hawks!
