The Week 2 matchup of the 2025-26 NFL season between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks was a disappointing one for residents of the Steel City.
With a score of 31-17 in Seattle’s favor, many questions have arisen about the legitimacy of this Pittsburgh team.
From start to finish, Pittsburgh’s performance was lackluster at that, a far cry from their victory over the New York Jets last week.
One of the most obvious problems for the team was the play of the offensive line.
For the second week in a row, Pittsburgh’s front five failed to provide quarterback Aaron Rodgers with the protection he needed, resulting in hurried throws and missed opportunities.
This issue has been a recurring one for Pittsburgh.
Speaking of struggles, rookie running back Kaleb Johnson’s mistake in the fourth quarter in regards to the new kickoff return rules was the final nail in the coffin during the game.
It was a tough moment for the young player, and one that highlighted the need for further rookie understanding of the rules.
Defensively, Pittsburgh showed some resilience, but overall, they didn’t play to their usual level of intensity.
Jalen Ramsey was a bright spot, making multiple key plays and showing why he’s considered one of the league’s top cornerbacks.
The overall lack of consistency suggests that Pittsburgh has a lot to work on before facing the New England Patriots 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Gillette Stadium.
Hopefully, in Seattle’s case, ride this wave of momentum to their Week 3 game against the New Orleans Saints.
However, this setback could serve as a wake-up call.
Pittsburgh will need to tighten up its offensive line and find ways to get its playmakers, such as DK Metcalf and Jaylen Warren, involved early.
Next week’s game will be a crucial test of their resilience and ability to respond under pressure and criticism.
