Girls soccer pushes top-ranked Peters to the brink

The Lady Hawks (5-5-1, 4-5-1) were set to play Peters Township (10-0-1, 8-0-1) after their shutout against Norwin on Monday. Looking for another win, they met Wednesday night with Peters on our home turf. After a close fight, they unfortunately came up short with a final score of 2-1.

The Indians were on fire right off the bat, scoring on a cross and header just in the first four minutes of the game.

Our girls weren’t ready to go down without a hard fight. Only ten minutes later, they scored with a great corner kick by Callee DalBon that was finished by Riley Johnson.

With the score tied at 1-1, they continued to brawl with Peters all the way until halftime was reached.

After halftime, the fight continued. With a direct kick from Peters, Alex Francus came in for the save to keep the game even.

This tie did not remain, though; soon after, Peters produced another direct kick from 35 yards out, pulling away from the Lady Hawks and bringing the score to 2-1.

Even though the girls succumbed to Peters, this game has a really good takeaway. Not only are the Lady Hawks the only team to score on Peters this season, but they have officially done it twice. They also scored on them when they played them earlier in the season.

The next battle that the girls face is against Hempfield (1-10, 0-9) in the Nest next Monday, Oct. 2. When the Lady Hawks played them last, they pulled out a fantastic win, defeating them 8-1.

1, 2, Kick, Up! Here comes Squad 3 with Squad Leader Tacey Trypus! Tacey is a senior this year and has been in Hawk Eye for the past three years. When asked why she joined Hawk Eye, she said, “I originally joined Hawk Eye a couple of years ago to try something completely new to me. Now in my third and final year of doing it, I not only found something I have a great passion for but also something that has brought me amazing friends and new experiences. I will miss it so much!” Other than marching on Friday nights, Tacey also spends her free time trying to get back into reading a lot more. She also enjoys relaxing with her three dogs and finding new shows/movies to watch. When asked about dream jobs, Tacey replied, “I would love to be a teacher so I could not only just teach but also be someone who is there for those in need of any kind of support.” Her dream vacation is going to Hawaii with her mom since they have been talking about it for years. If Tacey had one superpower, she would love to be able to mind-read. “When I want to; not all the time, because I can definitely be nosy sometimes.” After school, Tacey is still unsure about what she wants to do. She will most likely go to college but Tacey also is “going with the flow to see what life has in store for me.” When asked about Tacey's biggest accomplishments in her life, she said, “Becoming a Bethette squad leader. It took lots of hard work and I am very proud of myself for getting it.” One of Tacey’s favorite childhood memories is definitely going to Florida with just her mom. “It was super fun and I’m glad that I got to do it with her.” Tacey's biggest inspiration is her mom. “I have so much love for her because of how strong she is because of the things she has overcome.” If Tacey could have a 3-course meal, she would choose Rice Inn's General Tso’s. “I love it so much, and I’m actually addicted to it.” Next time you're at a football game or see Tacey at Rice Inn, be sure to say “Hi”! Now a senior, Ally plans to make her mark on the newspaper and the yearbook this year. Ally has had her claim to fame in photography around Bethel Park for over two years. Though she photographs many different activities around school, she has a clear-cut favorite: “I really like shooting football mainly because you can get a lot of cool action pics and I love the atmosphere on Friday Night.” She is a part of the Quill and Scroll International Honors Society, a prestigious organization that recognizes scholastic journalism. That is not all; Ally is a valued member of Blackhawk TVand Homecoming Committee, and she also runs her very own photography account on Instagram (Go follow her at @_awmedia71_)! On top of her activities, she is an esteemed golf and lacrosse player. Most days after school, you can see Ally going to work, sports practice, or finishing up any homework she has left. If Ally wants some tasty food, she will make her way to her favorite restaurant, Plaza Azteca: “I normally get 2 chicken quesadillas or enchiladas with queso.” When she has nothing else pressing on her to do, Ally finds her own ways to chill out: “My favorite way to relax would be watching Soccer Arsenal (Premier League), playing XBOX or sleeping.” “I joined this class because a lot of people over the years have recommended me to take it.” Well, we are glad she did! After high school, Ally wants to keep playing golf and continue her photography journey. This year, Ally is determined to make her senior year fun and exciting. “I want to make memories that will last a lifetime.” Be sure to catch Ally this year and all that she does!
