Mary Boff dribbles around a Canon Mac defender in the Lady Hawks’ game vs. the Big Macs on Thursday, Jan. 5.

The girls basketball team was back at home Thursday night in a showdown against Canon-McMillan. The Hawks came into the game with a 4-6 record having won four straight after opening the season 0-6.

We’re playing for each other and winning as a team. Our team’s energy has shifted and we have more hope for making playoffs.

They handled business early jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead with 5:32 left in the first quarter. The Hawks’ dominance continued throughout the half. They led 19-10 heading into the second quarter and 42-29 at the half.

Senior Sophia Nath carried the first-half scoring with 14 points.

The Hawks finished off an impressive night crushing the Big Macs with a final score of 73-51. Mary Boff, the Hawks’ stellar senior guard, once again dazzled in the win. Boff finished by leading all scorers with 22 but was also helped by senior Sophia Nath with 16 and sophomore Ella Sabatos who tallied 11 points.

The Hawks’ next contest is Jan. 13 at Baldwin (4-7, 0-3) in a huge conference showdown.

The Lady Hawks record now stands at 5-6 and 2-2 in conference play.
