Cordan McDonnell works for the fall in the Hawks’ match vs. USC Wednesday night.

The varsity wrestling team beat Upper St. Clair 60-11 in their section match on Wednesday night. With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-0 in their section.

The Hawks have had quite a bit of success leading up to the match. Over the holiday break, the team placed fourth in the Southmoreland Holiday Classic.  In that tournament, Mason Kernan took first place, Bryson Bench and Landon Hartman took second place, Ryan Walsh took third place, Seth Miller and Ethan Higgins each took fifth, and Jaden Palombine placed seventh.

“Wrestle stronger, faster, and smarter no matter who you’re wrestling, and don’t give up.  Let’s get the win!” said Bryson Bench before the match.

The team tallied five pins in the win. Seth Miller (106), Aden Stout (126), Ethan Higgins (132), Cordan McDonnell (145), and Ryan Walsh (172) each pinned their opponents.

The team will wrestle away at Mt. Lebanon next Wednesday for another big section match.
