Girls varsity lacrosse crushes Canon Mac in first sectional game

After a strong 2-0 start to the season, the Lady Hawks varsity lacrosse team faced their first section opponent in Canon-McMillan Tuesday night.

“I was confident we would come out with a win,” said junior captain Tori Krapp. “It was an all-around good team effort. I’m proud of how far we’ve come since the start of the season.”

It was their third straight win in double digits as the girls ran away with a lopsided 20-4 victory.

Starting in goal was sophomore Ashleigh Manns. Starting on attack was senior Lucia Coccagno, junior Ella Stewart, junior Maddy Walters, and sophomore Meghan Krapp. On midfield started junior Tori Krapp, junior Caitlyn Schultz, and junior Riley Miller. On defense were junior Kaitlyn Wiard, junior Chloe McDaniel, sophomore Carley O’mara, and freshman Averie Moul.

At halftime the Lady Hawks held a commanding 14-1 lead.

“I’m so proud of my team and all of our hard work,” said senior captain Lucia Coccagno. “We got our first section win out of the way and I can’t wait to see everything we are going to accomplish.”

Giving the team their 20 goals was Caitlyn Schultz with six, Lucia Coccagno with five, Riley Miller with four, Tori Krapp with two, Ella Stewart with two, and Meghan Krapp with one.

Leading with assists was Ella Stewart with five. Caitlyn Schultz got three, Riley Miller had two, and Lucia Coccagno, Meghan Krapp, Tori Krapp, Maddy Walters, and Carley O’mara all with one assist.

“We have really been focusing on taking better care of the ball and causing more turnovers and I was really happy to see us execute in both of those areas tonight,” said head coach Becky Luzier. “We have an explosive offense and when they get in their flow and stick to the game plan, they’re nearly impossible to stop.”

The Lady Hawks have their first home game against Latrobe on Tuesday, Aprril 6 at 6 p.m.
