Hawks snag big win from Tigers on Senior Night

The Black Hawks wrestling team snagged a 37-34 win over the North Allegheny Tigers on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

It was Senior Night, and the Hawks recognized seniors Sloan Armbruster, Brandon Hughes, Justin Metzmaier, Jared Yantek, Jake Dowell, and Liam Rooney.

Bethel Park also recognized the 2008-2009 WPIAL Championship Team.

The match started at the 132-pound weight class, in which sophomore Aidan Puskas got a decision victory to put the Hawks up 3-0. Junior Parker Loera claimed a major decision at the 138-pound weight class. After Vinny Riepole got the pin at 152, the Hawks found themselves up 13-4.

There was no match at 160, but after the Tigers got the forfeit at 170 and the Hawks got forfeits at 182, 195, and 220, the Hawks were up 31-10.

The Hawks gained another forfeit at 106 and gave up a forfeit at 120. By the time the final weight came and the match wrapped up at 126, the Hawks beat the Tigers for the first time since the ’08-’09 team did.

“I think it’s great to finish the year with a great win against a quality team,” said senior Jake Dowell.

With one dual left to go in the season, the Hawks sit at 4-7 on the year. They take on the Butler Golden Tornadoes on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.

They travel to the individual section tournament on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Connellsville.
