After a four-game Canadian road trip, the 5X Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins return home on Tuesday, Oct. 30 to face the New York Islanders on a “Halloween Theme Night” at 7 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena.

Fans are invited to wear their costumes and enter the Halloween costume contest in which they can win Penguins jerseys. Two fans will be selected each period. Click here for more Halloween-themed activities planned for the game.

The New York Islanders had an unexpected 2017- 2018 season as they missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season.  The Islanders finished the 2017-2018 season with 80 points and were in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division which consisted of 35 wins, 27 losses, and 10 overtime losses.

The Islanders are finishing up a brief three-game road trip that went through Philly on Saturday (W 6-1), Carolina on Sunday (W 2-1), and now Pittsburgh on Tuesday night. They are 5-4-1 and in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division.

The Penguins are off to a great 2018-2019 season start and just returning from a Canadian road trip where they went 4-0 including a huge 9-1 win against the Flames on October 25. They are 6-1-2 and in first place in the Metropolitan Division.

When Tuesday night comes around, the Penguins and the Islanders will play for the first time this season, then they will play each other again in New York on Nov. 1. And then, they will play each other two more times.  Even without Tavares for the Islanders, it should be an entertaining game on Tuesday night, “Halloween Theme Night,” in Pittsburgh.

About the Writer
Tyler Schultz, Deputy Sports Editor

The most vocal Pittsburgh Penguins fan in the entire school may be senior Tyler Schultz. He can always be seen watching game highlights, waving around a fan towel, and wearing Penguins gear. If he isn’t, then well, it’s not a good day in the hockey world.

Since this is his first year writing for the newspaper, he plans to write about what he loves most, hockey. And that’s because for him, “It’s like a real sport, it’s more fast-paced.”

Tyler even wants to make a sports broadcasting column recapping Penguins trades, games, and things of that nature because he claims “more emotion can be let out by doing that.”

And when Tyler graduates, he plans to take his spirit with him to his college of interest, Pitt.

What he is hoping to study there, he doesn’t exactly know. But what he does know is that he wants to do something relating to sports management.
