On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the boys varsity ice hockey team had its first game. The Hawks faced off against the Canon-McMillan Big Macs. The Hawks prevailed with a victory after a hard fought 51 minutes with a final score of 4-1.

At the end of the first period, the Hawks were up 1-0 on the Big Macs, after a goal by freshman Robbie Abraham.

Then, with almost two minutes left in the second period, the Big Macs tied it up with a gritty goal.

The two teams went into the third period tied. The game was up in the air, but sophomore Joey Wandrisco netted his first of the season on a breakaway. After this momentum-shifting goal, the Hawks took complete control of the game, scoring two more goals from seniors Thomas Worcester and Vincent Vittucio.

The Hawks outshot the Big Macs 63 to 20 resulting in the 4-1 victory.

Following the game, senior JC Bele said, “I felt we outplayed them in every aspect of the game and deserved the win.”

The Black Hawks look to carry this momentum with them into their next game against Central Catholic. The next game is home for the Hawks on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. Good luck to the boys hockey team as they continue their season.
