‘The Flash’ strikes twice at States

James Krandel continued his dream indoor season on Sunday with a second place finish in the 60 meter dash and a seventh place finish in the 200 meter dash at the PTFCA Indoor Championship held at Penn State’s Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

Krandel came into the meet with a personal best time of 6.91 (PA#3) in the 60 meter dash and was looking to make a statement. He had won a lot in western Pennsylvania this season, but he was able to show the rest of the state what he could do on Sunday. He thrives when the stakes are high and the competition is tough.

“It was really fun. I love the tough competition. It really pushes me to do better,” Krandel said.

Krandel did what he needed to do in the prelims and semifinals of the 60 meter dash to qualify for the finals posting a time of 7.01 in each race.

Krandel knew he had more to give in the finals. Not totally satisfied with his first two races, he rebounded and dropped a time of 6.97 in the finals, good enough to finish second overall in the state!

“The prelims and the semis weren’t my best races, but in the finals I had an all around solid race.”

Additionally, Krandel showed his range in the 200 meter, running a time of 22.37 which placed him seventh in the state against tough competition.

This weekend, all of his hard work paid off.

“Personally this weekend I proved to myself that if you word hard enough and if you put the time in you accomplish goals that you set in life. One of those goals I had going into this meet was placing top three in the 60 meter.”

Krandel will look to cap off his indoor season with a stellar performance in the national meet being held at the famous Armory Track in New York City from March 9-11. Here, Krandel’s goal is to make it to the finals of the 60 meter dash.

Congratulations, James, on your accomplishments at states and good luck at nationals!
