Lady Hawks prepare to defend the ball against Seneca Valley on October 3.

Redemption tastes sweet for the girls’ volleyball team as they beat Peters Township 3-1 on Thursday, Oct. 5 in Indian territory. The Lady Hawks lost 0-3 to them earlier in the season, but the girls prevented the Indians from sweeping them in section play.

“We started out a little slow, but we were able to show up and finish strong,” said co-captain Stephanie Kazalas, the player most excited for this rematch.

And Bethel Park did indeed start out slow; they lost the first set 20-25. The Lady Hawks were able to snag the following three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 25-17 with the help of senior Erin Sullivan, who led the team in kills with 18, and junior Brenna Manko, who followed Sullivan with nine kills.

The varsity team now stands at 7-4 overall, 5-3 in section, and 2-1 in non-section.

The JV team also took away a win tonight by beating the Indians 2-0. They are now 9-2 overall. Keep up the good work, girls!

The Hawks hope their momentum will carry over into next week’s away games. They start off the week at Oakland Catholic on Monday, Oct. 9, then play at Upper St. Clair on the 10th, and finish out the week at Mount Lebanon on Thursday, Oct. 12. Both Upper St. Clair and Mount Lebanon are section rematches.
