Minton commits to Drake

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Hawks running back/ middle line backer Alex Minton signed his commitment to Drake University to play football.

Minton put together an impressive senior season being named to all-conference first team, and being recognized as the KDKA Extra Effort awardee for his work on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Minton is an exceptional athlete, but is a well-rounded person as well. He embodies great characteristics that help him on and off the field.

Bethel Park football coach Jeff Metheny added his input on Minton.

He said: “As an athlete, Alex Minton is a very dedicated young man with very high standards. He practices to improve every single day and is a positive team leader! Alex developed his skills through the weight room and track. He is a physical, punishing player. As a person, he is even better– very loyal, humble and giving! He is an excellent teammate, leader and is the true meaning of a HAWK.”

Minton is as fit as anyone for the next level. His work ethic is unlike no other.

“If he continues having the same workout habits, then he’ll be a tremendous college player,” Metheny said.

Minton will add a lot to Drake. He has so many skills that any college coach would be impressed.

“He’s tough, aggressive and a team player. He will compete,” Metheny added.

Drake is an FCS school located in Des Moines, Iowa. Drake is coming off a 7-4 season, and is looking to improve on that win total.

Alex is what being a Bethel Park football player is all about. He made a huge mark on the program.

“Great leader, great player, great young man, and a super hawk.”
