BPHS’s student government has partnered with its boys and girls basketball teams to host a Hoops for Hope toy drive in order to support Toys for Tots Pittsburgh.
The initiative looks to spread holiday cheer while also supporting local children and families in need.
Hoops for Hope will take place during the Bethel Park Black Hawks home double header on Dec. 16, where the girls face the Albert Gallatin Colonials at 6 p.m., and the boys meet the South Fayette Lions at 7:45 p.m.
This advertises community participation amongst all who attend, as fans and supporters are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys.
In return, each donation will allow free admission into the game, thus creating a motive for others to contribute, alongside assisting the community.
All collected toys during the drive will be given to children and families in the Pittsburgh area through Toys for Tots, an organization that has distributed 708 million toys since its inception in 1947.
The group not only delivers toys, but also hope for some faced with uncertainty during the holiday season.
“This is a huge opportunity to get behind our teams while making a big impact in our community,” said student organizer Caleb Bush when asked about the project.
BPHS’s student government, with the district in general, is always looking towards giving back to the community, and this event acts as a perfect example.
Hoops for Hope demonstrates the district’s commitment to this mindset.
Whether through a toy donation or simply by attending the games, everyone has a chance to be part of something special during the Christmas season.
