When you see students hiding in bushes and running around with water guns, don’t be alarmed!
Over the past couple of years, BPHS students have participated in a game called Assassins, which involves high school seniors tracking down their target(s) and eliminating them every week using water guns until only one team remains.
This year, the first round started on Monday, March 3 at 6 a.m. and ends on Saturday, March 8 at 4 p.m. There must be clear evidence to declare elimination, unless the target admits.
Safe zones are included. Students are only safe throughout the week of school on school grounds, except anytime after 4 p.m. on Friday. But there are other safe areas like students’ cars, houses, sports/activities, and work.
Every week, the seniors have hints to scout out immunity items such as a shield, medkit, and immunity mask.
A bounty gets released in the middle of every week. The bounty is a team that is randomly selected, and people have 24 hours to eliminate the bounty to be awarded immunity until the second round.
The buybacks are available to anyone who gets eliminated in the first round. These buybacks start for the second round. The price of the buyback is $50.
Last year’s winners for BP assassins of 2024 were Mason Kernan and Landon Hartman, who won over $1,000.
This year’s winnings are currently over $1,300.
On Monday, March 3, the Bethel Park Police Department addressed an issue about the game and the safety of the students. The police department wants to keep the tradition going, but they are also working with the Bethel Park School District; both parties want to ensure the students’ safety and well-being.
