On Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m., junior Clara McGough will perform as a featured vocal soloist with the River City Brass Band at BPHS.

At the performance, she will sing “Memory from Cats,” Ella Fitzgerald’s version of “Lullaby Broadway,” and “On My Own” from “Les Miz.”

When asked about the importance of singing with the River City brass Band, McGough said: “I have sung with the group in the past, and I have been lucky enough to have been asked to come back as a guest singer for the past few years. In that time, I even had the opportunity to sing with my dad, who plays trumpet in the band. We sang a duet together last year for their Christmas series, and that was probably one of the most wonderful experiences in my entire life. Getting to perform with my dad is such a unique and incredible experience, and makes singing with the band that much more special.”

McGough started becoming a serious singer when she was about 10 years old. She currently sings with River City Brass Band and Top 21. She also did PMEA district regional and all-state last year.

In the past, McGough has done musical theater with PMT (Pittsburgh Musical Theater), Front Porch Theatricals, Little Lake Theater, and CLO, and she has participated in the last two musicals at BPHS where she played Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and Ella in “Cinderella.”

Besides Top 21, McGough is also a member of Concert Choir and Chamber Orchestra at BPHS.

McGough said: “[The River City Brass Band] are such incredible musicians, and singing with them has taught me so much about musicianship and performance….Plus, offstage, they are genuinely some of the funniest people that I have ever met, and they never fail to put a smile on my face!”
