Group of students perform show to promote reading
A group of students performed several shows for three of the Bethel Park elementary schools in hopes of promoting reading. The performance was to promote literature for the Accelerated Reading program.
Freshman Sabrina Myers said, “We acted out books, we sang and danced about books, and we had a medley for the opener by singing pop songs about books.”
“You used to take me to the book store” (sung to the tune of “Hotline Bling”) were some lyrics from the opening song.
This is the third year they have been visiting the elementary schools to advocate reading, and they will most likely visit again next year. The group began practicing in December.
“Our opening dance was choreographed by sophomore Chelsea Hallman, and our other two dances, including the finale, were choreographed by Emi Makohus, who graduated last year. The songs were written by multiple students in the cast, including a few who have graduated in years past,” said junior Sarah Kauffman.
“We will most likely continue the program next year. Memorial always likes us to come back because of the positive effect it has had on the kids,” said Kauffman.
The group performed February 23 at Memorial and will perform March 3 at Washington and March 18 at Lincoln.
