Music department hosts holiday concert

On Wednesday, Dec. 17, the BPHS Music Department held their annual holiday concert.

The night started with an annual tradition. Concert Choir came on the stage singing the processional: “Veni, Veni Emmanuel.” In addition, they sang five other songs including classics like “Up on the Housetop” and “And the Glory of the Lord,” which was accompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra. Concert Choir is directed by BPHS chorus teacher Mr. Kuczawa.

Next, the Symphonic Orchestra made their debut in the Holiday Concert. They are directed by orchestra teacher Mrs. Glover. They played “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “Dueling Jingle Strings,” and “A Gleeful Christmas.”

The Ladies’ Choir is a group of singers made up of freshman and sophomore girls. They are under the direction of Mr. Kuczawa. They sang four songs, including “The Shepard’s Carol” and “What Child is This?”.

The Jazz Band also performed four pieces. They were “I’ll be Home for Christmas,” “Silver Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-nosed reindeer,” and “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen.” Their director is band teacher Mr. Thompson.

Mr. Kuczawa made another appearance with Top 21. They sang “Deck the Halls,” “Merry Christmas, Darling,” and more.

The final group to perform was the Symphonic Band. Mr. Thompson is their conductor. They sang three songs, which were “Sleigh Ride,” “O Magnum Mysterium,” and “The Night Before Christmas,” which was narrated by former BPHS band directer Mr. Buetzow.

For the finale, members of all the ensembles came back onto the stage to perform the “Hallelujah Chorus” and “Christmas Festival.” For these two songs, alumni were invited onto the stage to sing the song.

The Holiday Concert is a night full of cheer and tradition. It is a concert that will continue for many years.
