A Space for Teens - Bethel Park Library's programs

Spring season is here in Bethel Park!

As the weather starts to become warmer and the sun begins to shine brighter, many teenagers in Bethel Park are looking for more to do. What some don’t know is that our own public library offers many programs and events for teenagers!

Any students in Grades 7-12 can participate in specific activities, allowing the community to share moments under the spring sun. Take advantage of these opportunities!

Upcoming Spring Programs at the Library:

Marvel Superheroes: Thursdays, April 16, & May 21 at 5 p.m.

“Do you like Dungeons and Dragons? Then you will love the superhero role-playing game, Marvel Superheroes! It has everything D & D has, PLUS robots, monsters, mutants, aliens, and more! Play as your favorite movie or comic book hero (or villain) OR roll up and create your own superhero! For grades 7-12.”

Sunset Social Club: Saturday, March 28, from 2- 4 p.m. April and May dates to be determined

“Join us one Saturday each month for food, music, and fun with our neighborhood social club, by teens, for teens! Use the QR code below for more details and to find out the theme for the upcoming month. For grades 9-12.”

BP Book Hawks: Thursday, April 9 at 3 p.m.

“Get ready for lively conversation with this high school book club! Snacks provided! Stop by the Children’s Desk at the Library to find out what we are reading and get a copy of the book. This book club is open to all high school and homeschooled students in grades 9-12.”

Cupcake Wars: Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m.

“Put your creativity, imagination, and sweet tooth to the test! You’ll be given a pantry of ingredients and a limited amount of time to turn cupcakes into themed designs to impress our panel of judges. Cupcakes will be provided! For grades 7-12.”

Fortunately, these are not all the programs provided in the spring season. The Library’s website, bethelparklibrary.org., has many calendars set for more events and even more information about what the library has to offer.

And if none of the events and programs offered appeal to you, the Library takes suggestions if you want to help improve the offerings and spaces for teenagers. They would love to hear from you, using the email [email protected] to send your suggestions.

“And another interception from Ava Cerro!” With quick reflexes and sharp instincts, Ava stands out on the flag football field, leading the team with frequent interceptions! As a cornerback, Ava is the backbone of the defense, using her acute awareness to shut down opposing receivers. Her ability to read plays and anticipate passes makes her a constant threat to quarterbacks, and her notable number of interceptions shows just how valuable she is to the team. Ava is also making a mark off the field. As a first-time member of Scholastic Publications, she plans to focus primarily on the Hawk Eye newspaper. She says the class is “the perfect opportunity” to help pursue her dream career in sports journalism. Ava’s commitment to writing will follow her to Penn State, where she plans to double major in Journalism and Film Production. If you’re on the couch during a Friday night, streaming the Bethel Park football game, you might recognize Ava’s voice. An important part of Black Hawk TV, her live commentating ties together the game’s events for at-home viewers. “Hard-working, independent, and efficient” are three words that perfectly capture Ava’s character. Whether she’s reporting, playing, or announcing, her strong work ethic and determination shine through. When she’s not working diligently, you might find Ava working through story-based video games like “Call of Duty,” “The Last of Us,” and “Detroit: Become Human.” You may also find her strumming her acoustic guitar or practicing piano with ease. Her favorite genre is action, especially Marvel and Star Wars films. If she’s not watching combat-packed movies, she’s listening to Modern Alternative and Pop artists such as Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, and Katseye.
