New fire station construction underway in BP

On February 28, construction started for a brand new fire station on Brightwood Road.

The old fire station was destroyed a year ago and the new one will replace it. It will be bigger and more up-to-date than the old one that had been built in 1954.

The project is being funded through a small property tax that was approved by voters as well as donations.

10 years of planning has gone into the fire station that is scheduled to be finished by May 2016. It will be 21,000 square feet for five vehicle bays, a meeting room, kitchen, training room, classroom, training tower, bunk rooms, gear rooms, offices, and a small museum of photographs, trophies, and antique equipment.

The new station was much needed seeing as the population of our community has tripled since 1954 and is continuing to grow. The department also has small stations on Milford and Clifton, but the central station is the one being reconstructed on Brightwood Road.

The expansion will definitely have a positive impact on Bethel Park and the fire department in the coming years.
