Sarah’s Top 10 Christmas Songs for 2018

It’s the holiday season, and even though not everyone celebrates Christmas, the songs that play on the radio are classics and are enjoyed by many. There may be some new ones and some old, but they are all pretty great. Here is a Top 10 list for the best Christmas songs of 2018.

#10: “Believe” by Josh Groban- This song from the Christmas movie “The Polar Express” won a Grammy award for the Best Song Written for Visual Media, and it´s a pretty good song. The song is played throughout the holiday season and is a classic just like the movie.

#9: “Holiday Road” by Lindsey Buckingham- From the best Christmas movie,  “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”, “Holiday Road” is not that recognized compared to some of these other songs, but it’s still catchy nonetheless.

#8: “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by The Jackson 5- Led by this talented family’s youngest male, Michael Jackson, this song is played a ton during the holidays and is a catchy tune in itself. It will definitely get you pumped up for all that shopping you possibly have to do.

#7: “Joy to the World” by Pentatonix- This fun version of the classic Christmas song “Joy to the World” is performed by one of the worlds most talented and well-known acapella groups. They make a classic into a really pop-like song and really bring “joy” to the holiday season.

#6: “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” by Josh Groban- If you want a good cry to get out all of your holiday frustration, try listening to this song. Groban puts in recorded phone calls from members of the military to their families wishing them “Merry Christmas” towards the beginning of the song. This makes being home for Christmas a bit more special and Groban takes it home with his fantastic singing.

#5: “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson- There are many versions of this song out there, but this instrumental is probably the best and brings those memories of car rides to grandma’s for Christmas back. It is performed by many bands and vocalists throughout the nation and is played every year by the Symphonic Band here at Bethel Park.

#4: “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby- Just listening to this song gives you the image of softly falling snow on a cold winter’s night. This song is a classic song to listen to this time of year and for many years to come. There are many versions of this song, but Bing Crosby brings it justice.

#3: “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” by Frank Sinatra- Sung by Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, this song is one of the best. It is exciting and is one of those songs you hear a lot during the holidays besides Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You” and Brenda Lee’s “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.”

#2: “Christmas Time is Here” by Vince Guaraldi Trio- This fantastic jazz pianist composed one of the greatest Christmas albums ever. There are a ton of songs on “A Charlie Brown Christmas” album that would be on this list, but this one is the best and is known by many. You can listen to the instrumental or hear your favorite Peanut’s characters sing the well-known tune while ice skating in the Christmas special.

#1: “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra- This has to be the top song. It is played every year and is known by many. It takes a classic Christmas song and it makes it really fun and intense. It is a classic that just can’t be beat and will be rocked out to for years to come.
