Every day has a holiday. From National Icee Day to Talk Like a Pirate Day, the extent of the holidays are nearly endless. Here are the holidays from October 16th to October 22nd:
October 16-Dictionary Day– On October 16, 1758, one of the most influential people was born. Noah Webster started writing one of the most famous dictionaries at the age of 43. 27 years later, he has a book that centuries later is one of the most used reference works. His dictionary was unique because, as well as containing proper English vocabulary, it contained unique American words. People use this day to learn new words or reading “The Good Book.” Whatever you may chose to do, learn some precocious and sophisticated new words.
October 17-Wear Something Gaudy Day– The goal of this day is to forgo fashion and wear something outlandish. “Gaudy” means bright, cheap, showy, outlandish, or otherwise not in good taste. For this day, wear something wild and wacky; something that should stick out wherever you go. Out of ideas? Wardrobe from the 80’s should do the trick. Don’t own anything flashy? Try looking for a friend who does. Wear something that will draw attention and make everyone turn to look at you.
October 18-National Chocolate Cupcake Day– October 18th marks National Chocolate Cupcake Day. Very similar to National Angel Food Cake Day, this day is dedicated to eating a specific dessert. Though instead of a yellow sponge cake, you eat chocolate cupcakes. As well as munching on these delectable minis, you can team up with Betty Crocker and bake your own. Also, you could plan a day trip to DC, where two famous cupcake shops are located. Whatever your wish is, make sure you take a bite of chocolate cupcakes.
October 19-Evaluate Your Life Day– This day has a more serious undertone to it. This is the day to step back and look at your life. Are you an “A student”? On the football team? Or are you capable of doing better in life. If you have the ability to do better, then take this day as a second New Year. Make resolutions, change your life. You won’t regret it later on.
October 20-International Newspaper Carrier Day- Though Newspaper Carrier Day is on September 4th, Newspaper Association of America established International Newspaper Carrier Day on varied dates. This year, it occurs on October 20th. This day is meant to celebrate all the newspaper carriers throughout the world delivering breaking news into the hands of the public. This day honors carriers all over the world, as they deliver the paper diligently in all kinds of weather conditions. So, give your carrier an extra tip on this day. They deserve it.
October 21-National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day- Another dessert day! This one is dedicated to eating pumpkin cheesecake. October is known for pumpkins. They literally are growing! So, why not combine two delicious desserts- pumpkin pie and cheesecake- into one delicious end to a meal. Buy a cheesecake. Bake a cheesecake. And eat a cheesecake!
October 22-National Nut Day- October 22nd may be one of the most wacky days in the world. This holiday celebrates 2 things. It is meant to appreciate all the nutty, weird, and wild people in the world. Show the loonies and insane people in your life you care. It also has a more literal meaning in celebrating the nutritious nuts. Eat nuts. Bake with nuts. Crack nuts. Just not peanuts. They’re part of the Pea family.
